New project from the singer of Vas. Azam was born in Iran and grew up in India, and her music is heavily influenced by both cultures. Her otherworldly and hauntingly beautiful music combined with exquisite vocals in Eastern languages have prompted comparisons to Dead Can Dance and Irfan. While there is some merit to such comparisons, Azam's work is decidedly original and vibrant.

Niyaz is the new project of VAS vocalist Azam Ali. Their debut CD features her absolutely stunning vocals as well as music by Loga Ramin Torkian of Axiom of Choice and Grammy-winning producer/remixer Carmen Rizzo. This is a brilliant CD with a good mix of downtempo and uptempo tracks, highly recommended for fans of world music, female vocals, bellydance music, and exotic sounds.
